Description

Here's a charming, well-formed, set of essentially three crystals of the rare phosphate mineral whiteite, aesthetically arranged by size. From the famous Rapid Creek Mining District, specifically at Crosscut Creek. This locality is known for its Late Cretaceous iron-rich sideritic sedimentary shales that display considerable folding and faulting, with phosphate mineralization occurring in fractures. Whiteite is a rare hydrated hydroxyphosphate mineral, and some of the finest specimens come from this locality. Notably, no new material is currently being extracted from this isolated and hard to reach locality! Purchased by Dr. Tarassoff in 1979.
